Low Level Laser Therapy Treats a Wide Range of Conditions
Osteoarthritis
Mild osteoarthritis is inflammation of one or more joints, which results in pain, swelling, stiffness, and limited movement. Arthritis involves the breakdown of cartilage, our body’s natural shock absorbers, allowing for the smooth movement of joints. Without the usual amount of cartilage, the bones rub together, causing pain, swelling (inflammation), and stiffness.
Living with pain can be one of the hardest parts of having arthritis.
While not yet curable, the condition is usually manageable with a multimodal treatment approach.
Neck and Back Pain
Neck and back pain is very common and extremely debilitating. There are many treatment modalities depending on what kind of pain you have. Exercise is a commonly prescribed treatment to ease chronic pain.
Low level lasers are a useful tool in the pain management toolbox. When used in conjunction with exercise, low level laser therapy (LLLT) can help manage pain, increase mobility and allow patients to manage their own pain.
Joint Pain
Joint pain is a common complaint suffered by many people from all walks of life. Mild joint pain whether it be in the knees, fingers, wrists, ankles, hips, hands or feet can be uncomfortable for sufferers. Sometimes there is associated feeling of heat or warmth around the joint. If the pain continues, it can cause stiffness and limit your mobility. Painful swelling also can compromise your ability to do everyday tasks and can affect your overall quality of life - preventing you from doing the things in life you love to do!
There are many causes of joint pain. It can be caused by injury, overuse of the joints, infections or illnesses such as the flu or mumps. Joint pain is also often one of the symptoms in conditions such as lupus, fibromyalgia and gout. Arthritis is also a major contributor to joint pain and can affect people at any age.
Knee Pain
One of the most common applications for low level laser therapy is to treat knee pain. Our knees sustain considerable pressure and force throughout our lives, particularly during sport or regular day-to-day activities. Knees are particularly susceptible to damage and chronic pain as we age.
Knee pain is commonly caused by a range of inflammatory conditions including:
- Bursitis
- Tendonitis
- Mild arthritis in the knee joint
- Ligament strains and sprains from injury
Sports Injuries
Acute or short-term pain is commonly caused through injury. Athletes are especially prone to injuries, including
- Sprains
- Muscle and ligament tears
- Dislocations
- Inflammation
Low Intensity Laser Therapy acts to reduce the inflammation surrounding damaged soft tissue and relieve the debilitating associated pain. Many professional athletes are supporters of low level laser therapy to treat sports related injuries and post-performance recovery.
